Our   Story

A little support can go a very long way in someone's life.

From   the   beginning

Where   we   are   now

Picture
Our Sheltering world team met during the first ever Midsummer Neighbourhood Arts trail held in the Stanthorpe Triangle and Wellfield Road on the 21st of June. Over the months since then, we have held weekly distanced meetings and our regular exchange of ideas has been a source of inspiration and enjoyment.

For the Sheltering World project as a team we brainstormed about what that meant to us on a personal level, one keyword in particular, was protection and who needs that the most - children. Children are the most vulnerable and also in many ways the most resilient. This made us think about having a child as the character with whom our viewers could relate as they visit our poetic world of 'shelters'. You can see how our child changes colour in each shelter, for children always have to adapt to where they find themselves like chameleons. Our world with all its islands was created in virtual reality and we all pitched in our ideas about how it would look.

Many thanks to Glyn Jones, who has been our documentarist over the months and who took these photos of us as we discussed our plans and shared our stories. Glyn is also working on a film about how our project unfolds, this will be posted on Youtube in March 2021

So, while Terri and Fion were creating the visuals, Eliza's poetry underpinned the story and Tyson, watching the construction of each shelter responded by composing and performing the soundtrack. Tyson's work is celebratory and upbeat, he tells the story of his own experience through the music. Despite his difficult childhood, current serious health problems and not having a home of his own, his music gives him joy and helps him to deal with the most difficult situations.

Tyson is due to release an album of his work in the next few days - so watch this space!
